Rhapis excelsa

Common Name Lady Palm
Type of Plant Palm

This popular, clumping palm has easily distinguishable divided or star-shaped leaves. Slender trunks are covered with leaf scars and dark brown fibers as well. It can be grown indoors in containers as a houseplant or positioned in a landscape to provide volume, texture and deep greens to the landscape's palette. Its species name, excelsa, means 'elevated' or 'tall', despite the fact that this palm often reaches to only 10 feet tall on average! Because of this, it is often an understory plant in habitat.

Requirements Consistently moist soil that is pH neutral to slightly acidic is ideal for Rhapis excelsa. Soil should be well drained to prevent root rot, and the depth of its color will be maintained in a partially shaded position rather than full sun.
