According to International Union for Conservation of Nature this species is critically endagnered- perhaps because it is edible in many forms. Its fruit can be fermented into alcohol, its seedlings are edible when very young and its heart is harvested for consumption as well. It is solitary, palmate and boasts trunks to 3 feet thick with deep green leaves, 8 - 10 feet across. It may reach a height of 60 feet with a 20 - 25 foot spread.

Requirements Grows well in acidic and alkaline soils. Growth rate moderate. Can tolerate short cold snaps into high 20s. Salt tolerance observed as moderate as well.
