A hybrid between Bauhinia purpurea and Bauhinia variegata, this species is typically sterile and therefore does not produce seeds. Easily identifiable by its bright pink blooms, its image appears on the flag of Hong Kong, its coat of arms and various coins. At 15-20’OA when fully mature, this tree is fast growing and can reach 2feet of growth annually in optimal habitat.

Requirements Prefers consistently moist soil with some drought tolerance. B. blakeana should remain in temperatures above 27 degrees to reduce risk of frost damage. It thrives in full sun with a variety of soil compositions, though it should be well-drained.
