Also known as Painted Bamboo, this species is one of the most cultivated bamboos globally due to its distinct, random striations of color. Because they are so tightly clumped, they make for excellent natural privacy and can in fact prevent erosion in certain settings. It is quick to maturity and will reach heights in excess of 35 feet by its fifth year.

Requirements This bamboo is happiest in well drained soil of loamy composition. As an understory but very tall plant, it can accept full sun to partial shade. Soil should stay moist throughout, without drying fully between irrigation intervals.
